Beyond the Vlog
Alright, I gave in. I'm going to start making actual written posts, instead of audio/video links. Lately I've had a lot of random thoughts that I'd really like to just get on paper, so I'm going to use that as fuel to hopefully propel this into the grand blogosphere!
Five days a week, I drive approximately 25 miles to work at WMCO. And on my way to work, there have to be at least 567 thoughts that pop into my head: clever topics for blog/vlogging, how awful my breath stinks, how badly my eyebrows need to be plucked, how I really need to finish reading whatever I'm reading, when/if I'll go on a decent date, and the grandaddy of them all: what I'll be doing in my post undergraduate career. (I'm so ready to be done with college!) Isn't it funny how within such a short period of time a myriad of totally unconnected thoughts can pop into your head? Sometimes I wonder how and why our conscience arrives a the thoughts it does. Anyway, I've come to love these 25 minute drives where I can let my mind wander. Sometimes it's almost like a meditation, I often arrive at solutions to problems plaguing my brain or remember something I was supposed to do. But my favorite and perhaps most intriguing part of hopping in my car is having those split second encounters where I lock eyes with a total stranger--someone on the street, in their car, mowing their lawn, riding a bike, walking their dog, playing hopscotch.
In this split second when our pupils instantaneously meet, I wonder who they are, and what their story is: are they somehow a medical miracle, surviving their birth against all odds? Are they Owen Wilson's third cousin? Or is Sylvester Stallone their estranged father? Seconds later, I'm left wondering how my mind can concoct 36 possiblities, in a split second.
